Repair Cafe
What is Repair Cafe?
Basically, it is neighbors helping neighbors fix stuff!
A repair cafe teaches people to see their possessions in a new light/ It can demonstrate how fun and easy repairing things can be.
At our repair cafe, a team of volunteers from the community use their knowledge and skills to help others.
You’ll get valuable practical knowledge. Your things will last longer and stay out of the landfill.
How does it work?
Volunteers sign up in their area of expertise. We have areas for sewing/mending, furniture repair, tech help, knife sharpening, electrical repairs, and games and refreshments.
Volunteers bring any necessary tools that they may need. We ask that the volunteers show up 15-30 minutes before the doors open to the public so there is ample time for setup.
Community members bring broken items or come to simply enjoy coffee and a light lunch and visit with others. All are welcome.
What to expect?
Have something that needs fixing? Bring it in and our volunteers will do their best to help. If they are unable to fix it, they likely know where to refer you to get it fixed.
Don’t have anything to fix? Come anyway and enjoy, coffee, snacks, and community.
These items can be carried in for fixing:
- Items that need sewing/mending
- Knit items
- Broken jewelry
- Art items
- Small furniture pieces
- Small appliances
- Electrical items
- Knives and scissors that need sharpening
There is a 3 item limit per household. This helps us make sure we can help everyone who stops in.
Additional service and support:
- Tech support (social media, cell phones, tablets, etc.)
- Journaling
- Massage and Yoga therapy (mini-consultations)
- Blood pressure checks
These items ARE NOT allowed:
- Firearms
- Weapons
Each month we are visited by a Dog of the Month who is available for adoption from the Northwoods Humane Society. These dogs are well-behaved and love community as much as people do!
Upcoming Repair Cafe Events
Repair Cafes are generally scheduled every third Saturday of the month. There may be exceptions in December (for holidays), February (for Birkebeiner), and April (for elections or other events). Check the Home Page for notices and signup to receive updates.
Repair Cafes are hosted 10:00 am-12:30 pm at the Cable Community Center (13660 Co. Hwy M, Cable, WI 54821).
